MSIT unveils “Data Protection Technology Development Strategy”

Takeaway​


  • The strategy is three-pronged: i) data protection technologies, ii) operation of pilot projects, and iii) incorporation of data protection technology into curriculum.
  • i) includes Privacy Enhancing Technology(PET) that masks sensitive information like personal/financial information as well as encryption technologies such as Homomorphic Encryption(HE) and Quantum Encryption, whose investment amount is expected to reach about KRW 12bn between 2022 and 2024. Other data protection technologies are the ones that create synthetic data and protect block chain/data sovereignty.
  • ii) includes the application of data protection technologies to different fields from transportation to logistics as well as the K-statistics system that connects dispersed data across the government bodies in cooperation with the Statistics Office to encourage a safe use of public data. HE, synthetic data, differential privacy technologies will be applied for Kstatistics system.
  • iii) includes the designation of two schools as data protection-specialized universities to nurture talent. It is aiming to nurture about 50 youngsters in the field of AI security and 350 people in the field of what is called K-shield. Guidelines will be shared, soon.
