Domestic Medical AI & Digital Companies to Enter Vietnamese Market Through Cooperation With Vietnamese Government

The Ministry of Science and ICT (“MSIT”; Minister Lee Jong-ho) hosted 2023 Vietnam-Korea Medical AI + DX Cooperation Forum and Partnership with the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology on Friday, June 9, at 9 a.m. at Lotte Hotel Hanoi, Vietnam.

The forum was organized to share Korea’s and Vietnam’s policies related to medical AI and digital transformation (DX) and provide Korean companies with Vietnamese market entry opportunities. The participants include: Park Yun-kyu, Vice Minister of Science and ICT of Korea; Bui The Duy, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology of Vietnam; Dr. Nguyen Lan Hieu, Director of Hanoi Medical University Hospital; and Vu Duc Loi, Associate Professor at the Vietnam-Korea Institute of Science and Technology (VKIST).

At the Forum Session, the MSIT gave presentations on AI diffusion, measures to improve the competitiveness of hyperscale AI and diffuse medical AI, and digital therapeutics development support. The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) presented Vietnam’s AI strategy and policies.

In the following Biz Session, the AI adoption research by Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Vietnam National Cancer Institute and its progress were presented. Solutions presented by Korean medical AI companies — Lunit (AI solution for Chest X-Ray), Crescom (knee arthritis, etc.) and JLK (brain diseases, etc.) garnered much attention from the local audience as they can be immediately applied in hospitals in Vietnam.

In his congratulatory remarks, Vice Minister Park Yun-kyu highlighted the importance of the innovation brought by AI and digital technologies in the medical field and said, “I hope that this forum serves as a venue for sharing both countries’ perspectives on the importance of digitalization and provides Korean companies with opportunities to enter the Vietnamese market successfully and produce meaningful results.”
