MSIT Vice Minister Travels to Indonesia and Singapore to Promote Export Opportunities for Innovative Korean Digital Businesses

The Ministry of Science and ICT (“MSIT”; Minister Lee Jong-ho) announced on June 6, 2023, that the Ministry began its Digital Export Pioneering Group activities, meaning that it will make full-fledged efforts to promote export opportunities in the ASEAN region, starting with Indonesia and Singapore.

The Digital Export Pioneering Group is headed by the Second Vice Minister Park Yun Kyu of the Ministry of Science and ICT. The formation of such a group is of great significance in that it brings together members of the government, expert institutions*, and more than 100 innovative digital businesses to work as a team, exploring export opportunities via combining intergovernmental cooperation and business activities in the private sector.

The Group’s first visit was to Indonesia, where the they hosted the ICT Business & Content Partnership event on June 6th. The event featured exhibition booths and business meetings with major potential buyers in the region. In attendance were 18 digital businesses in the data protection, healthcare, and content sectors.

On June 7, the Group will travel to Singapore. They are to operate a Korean pavilion in CommunicAsia2023, one of Asia's largest ICT exhibitions. The Korean pavilion will be housing about 40 businesses who will showcase and promote the excellence of Korean digital businesses.

Vice Minister Park said, “The activities of the Digital Export Pioneering Group, which is composed of representatives in both public and private sector, helped reaffirm the high level of interest of Indonesian counterparts in our innovative digital businesses as well as the great potential for expanding exports.” He highlighted, that the Ministry “will continue to assist Korean companies' entrance into new foreign markets while remaining committed to supporting business activities so that they can lead to expanded output and more exports.“
