Kim Seong-gyu, Director General of the International Cooperation Bureau from the MSIT and Jacques Ducrest, Head International Relations from SERI co-chaired the meeting.

The Korea-Switzerland S&T JCM is a regular meeting between the two governments based on their bilateral agreement on the scientific and technological cooperation signed in 2008. Through previous JCMs, Korea and Switzerland have actively discussed measures to boost scientific and technological cooperation.

At the Sixth S&T JCM, the two countries shared their respective S&T policies and explored how to promote cooperation in areas such as quantum science, biotechnology, digital technology and industrial technology. Then, they took stock of the progress of the talent exchange and joint research programs that are underway and discussed future collaboration measures.

In particular, it was notable that Professor Andreas Wallraff of ETH Zurich gave a presentation and participated in the discussion. He is a world-renowned professor in quantum science who was among the group of quantum experts that met with President Yoon Suk-yeol during his visit to ETH Zurich in January.

Meanwhile, Minister Lee Jong-Ho plans to attend the "Reception of the 60th Anniversary of Korea-Switzerland Diplomatic Relations" to be held at the Swiss Embassy in Seoul on May 19 (Friday) on behalf of the Korean government to offer congratulations and discuss bilateral science and technology cooperation with Guy Parmelin, the Swiss Minister of Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research.

Kim Sung-Gyu, the Director General for the International Cooperation Bureau, MSIT, stated, "Switzerland is a leading nation in basic science that has produced 27 Nobel laureates in the field of science and technology." He further expressed, "With the Sixth Korea-Switzerland S&T JCM which was held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations, we expect that the friendly cooperative relationship between the two countries in the field of science and technology, which has been strengthened since President Yoon Suk-yeol's visit to Switzerland in January, will be further enhanced."
