The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lim Hyesook) announced the initiation of the “2022 Action Plan to Support Women Scientists and Engineers” (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Action Plan’) to help enhance capabilities of women scientists and engineers.

This Action Plan consists of three strategies: i) fostering innovative women talent in science and technology, ii) creating more sustainable jobs for women scientists and engineers, and iii) fostering an environment where people can strike a balance between work and life. The Action Plan will include a project to foster and support women scientists and engineers, and a project to establish and operate the support centres for women scientists and engineers. Also, the budget for 2022 increased by 17.6% compared to that of last year.

Under the project to foster and support women scientists and engineers, efforts will be made to attract more girls in the STEM fields, help women on maternity leave, provide mentoring programs throughout all lifecycle, and create an environment where women can juggle a balance between work and life.
The support centers for women scientists and engineers include an online platform that provides support throughout women’s lifecycle, the operation of academies to nurture female talent, and an effort to create an environment where women scientists and engineers across all regions grow.

Director-General Hwang Pansik of Future Science HR Policy Bureau Of MSIT said that fostering women scientists and engineers is crucial in securing science and technology competitiveness, and the ministry will put all efforts to support female scientists and engineers by innovating the system and culture, so that they will be able to work without further difficulties.
