The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lim Hyesook) announced the “Smart Defense Strategy based on D(data). N(network). A(Artificial Intelligence)” in partnership with the Ministry of National Denfese (MND, Minister Suh Wook) at the 27th General Meeting of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution held on February 23.
Under the vision of ‘To build the smart and strong military forces and create a new digital market with the nation’s selected critical and emerging technologies including data, network, and artificial intelligence,’ the government is planning to invest 10.03 billion won (or USD 83.4 million dollars) in 2022, and steadily increase the investment volume.
The key agenda of the strategy is as follows:
i) Adopt the emerging technologies of data, network and AI, pre-emptively, and spread the use across the all of armed forces.
ii) Advance the digital Defense infrastructure.
iii) Reinforce soldiers’ digital capabilities in data, network, and AI.
iv) Build the foundation where the D.N.A. technologies are widely used to boost military power.
