The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lim Hyesook) announced that it virtually held the first Korea-Colombia Joint Committee Meeting on Science and Technology on February 18 with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation of Colombia. At the meeting, the two parties concluded the Memorandum of Understanding on Scientific and Technological Cooperation.
This Joint Committee Meeting was a follow-up to the Korea-Columbia Summit held in August, 2021. This was held to enhance the bilateral cooperation by discussing ways to exchange each nation’s policies on science and technology, and to increase cooperation between research institutes of each nation.
The two parties introduced their key policies in science and technology and seek new ways to promote cooperation. The Korean side introduced the fourth National Science and Technology Basic Plan(2018~2022), and key investment areas for 2022. In return, Colombia introduced their policies on science, technology and innovation.
A discussion was followed, subsequently, to discuss ways to cooperate in the field of science and technology including bioengineering and carbon neutrality. To be specific, ways to manage and use bioscience resources efficiently, strategies for the bio economy were discussed. The two sides continued the discussion on how to use hydro energy and capture carbon. With the close bilateral partnership on the aforementioned areas, the two countries are expected to have a reciprocal partnership in the future.
