The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Minister: Lim Hyesook) held the 13th pan-governmental Digital New Deal conference on January 26 and announced the Digital New Deal Action Plan 2022.

The Digital New Deal initiative has contributed to economic recovery, improvement in the industrial fundamentals, and changes in people’s lives. Under the Action Plan 2022, the Korean government will speed up digital transformation by investing the record-high 9 trillion won into the initiative.

To be specific, 5.9 trillion won will be allocated to promote the integration of Data, Network, and Artificial Intelligence(D.N.A.) throughout economy, 0.5 trillion won to advancing noncontact infrastructure, 0.8 trillion won to developing hyper-connected industries including metaverse, and 1.8 trillion won to digitization of social overhead capital(SOC).

To pursue a stronger integration of D.N.A., the government will make more data publicly available, apply 5G and AI to diverse industries including manufacturing, and operate smart public services such as issuing mobile drivers’ licenses.

As regards advancing contactless infrastructure, the government will promote noncontact services in such diverse areas as education, healthcare and micro and small-sized businesses.

To develop hyper-connected industries including metaverse and cloud, the government is supporting and investing in platform and content creation. In addition, the public information systems and servers will be moved to the private cloud platforms, as part of efforts to enhance private cloud businesses.

The government also pursues the digitization of social overhead capital. This includes the digitization of the lands and roads so as to ensure people’s safety on the road while building the smooth logistics system on the land and the sea.

Furthermore, to build a close cooperative channel between public and private sectors, the government will soon hold the pan-governmental “Digital New Deal Business Briefing” in February 2022.
