The Ministry of Science and ICT (“MSIT”; Minister Lee Jong-Ho)announced that it held the Korea-U.S. Information Security Industry Partnership Workshop (B2B Workshop) on May 9, on the occasion of the RSA Conference, the largest cybersecurity exhibition in the U.S.
The MSIT organized this B2B workshop in collaboration with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Embassy in Korea to strengthen private sector cooperation between the two countries, following the signing of the Korea-U.S. Cybersecurity Cooperation Framework (2023.4.26) during last year's Korea-U.S. Summit.
This event marked the first Korea-U.S. industrial exchange hosted in the U.S. by Ministry to support the Korean cybersecurity businesses' entry into the U.S. market. The event was attended by representatives from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and over 40 cybersecurity companies from both Korea and the U.S.
The B2B workshop was structured into two sessions. The first session featured a Korea-U.S. industry seminar, and the second session included a business dinner and networking session. The first session began with a lecture by the NIST on Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 Guide, followed by a presentation from Senior Principal Analyst Mr. Fernando Montenegro at the renowned global tech research firm Omdia on the Status and Prospects of the U.S. Cybersecurity Industry. This provided valuable insights for Korean companies seeking to enter the U.S. market.
Additionally, Mr. Jamil N. Jaffer, Strategic Advisor at Paladin Capital Group, one of the largest cybersecurity investment firms in the U.S., delivered a lecture on strategies for attracting U.S. Investment for Korean cybersecurity startups. His lecture sparked significant interest among the Korean cybersecurity companies in attendance.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Jung Sung-hwan of the Korea Information Security Industry Association underscored Korea's competitiveness in cybersecurity during his speech titled Korea's Information Security Policy and Status of the Industry in the presence of American security companies. He also proposed ways of collaboration with the U.S. industry, including the adoption of a zero-trust approach.
The second session of the event consisted of a networking session participated by 16 leading global cybersecurity companies, including Trellix and Fortinet. During this session, participants shared meals with representatives from Korean businesses and established connections.
Director General Jeong Changrim of the Cyber Security and Network Policy Bureau of MSIT said, "This B2B workshop was hosted to promote private sector cooperation between Korea and the U.S., and also as a follow-up to the 2023 summit and cybersecurity framework that marked the 70th anniversary of the ROK-US alliance." He added, "We anticipate that events like this will foster continuous exchanges between the information security industries of both countries."
