Industry Outlook Conference 2022 is held on Nov.4-5
The Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea
(Minister Lim Hye-sook, MSIT) held the ICT Industry Outlook Conference 2022 virtually
and physically on November 4 and 5 to discuss the ICT outlook and future plans
in the digital transformation era. The conference that marks the 21st
anniversary engaged diverse ICT experts at home and abroad under the theme of
“Digital Transformation: Innovation-driven Future,” sharing the current ICT
status and its outlook, and seeking ICT-based measures to address social issues.
On November 4, eight lectures are delivered in three areas: i) future forecast,
ii) main issues and trend, iii) 2022 ICT outlook. Experts with a variety of
backgrounds from technology to economy at home and abroad participated in the
session.
[Future Forecast]
Professor Kathryn Myronuk, named one of CNN’s Top 7 Tech
Heroes to Watch in 2015 and a co-author of the book “Abundance, of Singularity
University opens up the first day’s session with the presentation about the ICT
innovation in 2022. The session continues with the presentation by Professor
Cho Young-tae of Seoul National University, a population policy and prediction
expert, about “The Population Change and ICT Needs,” followed by the
presentation by President Kim Heung-chong of the Korea Institute for
International Economic Policy on “The Great Transformation and Digital Trade.”
[Main Issues and
Trend] Professor Kim Ran-do of Seoul National
University, who has been presenting a new social trend every year, presents the
2022 outlook under the title of “Trend Korea 2022: Focusing on implications for
the ICT Industry.” Then, Professor Dannes Hong delivers the presentation titled
‘Do Robots Need to Look Like Human?,” followed by an economic analysist youtube
influencer SukaWorld’s presentation titled “The Era of Digital Transformation,
a Changing World and Us.”
[2022 ICT Outlook] President Kwon Ho-yeol of Korea Information
Society Development Institute presents the exports outlook and the current
status of the domestic ICT market that posts a steady growth in spite of a
prolonged Covid-19 pandemic, with his presentation titled ‘International
Economic Changes and the Outlook of ICT.” The last presentation titled “2021
ICT Top Issues and next year’s key issues driven by Digital New Deal and the
spread of contactless business models” is delivered by Vice President Moon
Hyoung-don.
On the second day of the conference,
there will be a session for the in-depth discussion on the future role of ICT and
how to respond to the changes in the new society reshaped by the digital
transformation. At the morning session, under the theme of ‘The Future of
Digital Transformation,’ and ‘The Era of Digital Capitalism of Digital Intelligence,’
in-depth discussions on changes in technology and environment caused by digital
transformation will be conducted, followed by other topics like ‘The Advanced
of Digital Intelligence,’ ‘Digital Virtual Economy,’ and ‘The Proliferation of
Digital Convergence’ to discuss the direction of ICT, the ICT industry’s
environment and readiness for the future. This ICT Industry Outlook Conference
2022 is held online and offline aligned with the government’s recent roadmap
for gradual return to normal. The online conference is available for free on a

Facebook, Naver TV, and Kakao TV.
The second Vice Minister Cho Kyeong-sik
said in his ceremonial remark that “Despite the crisis of the global pandemic,
the Korean economy has been leading the global innovation in such areas as
semiconductors, ultra high-speed internet, and 5G. This was possible thanks
largely to the hard work and contributions of the ICT professionals. The Korean
government will ensure to provide support continuously to help the ICT industry
prosper further with the seamless implementation of Digital New Deal Policy.
