- MSIT and Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) finalize an MOU to accelerate public climate technology for climate change mitigation

The Ministry of Science and ICT (Minister Yoo Sang-im, hereinafter “MSIT”) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI)* on June 19 at GGGI’s headquarters in Seoul, to enhance the global dissemination of public climate technologies in response to climate change.

*GGGI is an international organization established in 2012 with 50 member countries, aiming to promote sustainable green growth and address climate change in developing countries.

This MoU is intended to strengthen global capacity for climate change response by leveraging Korea’s public-sector research outcomes that are applicable to climate adaptation and mitigation. MSIT and GGGI plan to collaborate based on their respective expertise and global networks.

Key areas of cooperation include:

Supporting the introduction and commercialization of climate technologies in GGGI member and partner countries;

Facilitating cooperation and knowledge-sharing for the development and dissemination of public climate technologies;

Establishing mechanisms for international demonstration and deployment of such technologies.

MSIT will support the overseas demonstration and dissemination of Korea’s advanced public climate technologies, while GGGI will contribute by identifying local technology needs and ensuring on-the-ground feasibility in its member countries. The MoU is expected to strengthen Korea’s leadership in climate technology and promote the global uptake of Korean innovations.

Minister Yoo stated, “This MoU marks a significant first step toward advancing concrete and impactful cooperation with GGGI under our shared vision of science and technology-based climate action. We will continue to work closely with global partners to expand the international outreach of Korea’s public climate technologies.”
