- MSIT launched the 3rd 2030 Youth Advisory Group.

- The Advisory Group began its roles as a key policy partner for MSIT.

The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister: Bae Kyung-hoon) announced that it held the launch ceremony for the 3rd MSIT 2030 Youth Advisory Group (“the Advisory Group”) on June 22 at the Government Complex Sejong to reflect the perspectives of younger generations in science and technology, ICT, and AI policymaking and strengthen policy communication with future generations.

* The Advisory Group is a youth-participation policy body operated by ministry-level central administrative agencies. It conveys young people’s perspectives on major policies of each ministry and helps identify new policy ideas.

The Advisory Group is responsible for making proposals on science and technology and ICT policies, collecting and conveying the viewpoints of young people, and developing policy ideas. Its members were selected in April through open recruitment followed by document screening and interviews. The group consists of 21 young people from industry, academia, and research institutes including university students studying science and engineering, researchers, and startup founders who have an interest in and ideas for MSIT policies. The newly selected members are expected to gather diverse opinions and voices from younger generations, convey them to MSIT, and offer diverse perspectives from the viewpoints of young people.

The launch ceremony began with welcome remarks by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae, followed by the presentation of a certificate of appointment to Lee Mu-geun, the newly appointed youth advisor and head of the Advisory Group and the presentation of appointment letters to the Advisory Group members. After the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae had a luncheon meeting with the Advisory Group members who freely shared the challenges they have experienced in the field and their aspirations for the future.

After listening to the voices of the members, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae said, “I believe that the more AI takes over human tasks, the more the world will ultimately be changed by ‘the questions, experiences, and creative ideas that only humans can have,’ something even generative AI cannot imitate.” He added, “Amid this era of AI transformation, I hope the members of the 2030 Youth Advisory Group candidly share the experiences and voices that only they can offer and serve as a strong bridge connecting policy and society.” 

He also referred to the Advisory Group as a key policy partner of the ministry, saying “The Advisory Group is a key policy partner connecting our ministry with future generations. I sincerely hope that the Advisory Group will help design the future of Korea’s science and technology and ICT together with us.” He added, “The government will continue to meet with young people more frequently and engage in active discussions so that perspectives of younger generations can naturally be incorporated into the overall policies across science and technology, and ICT.”
