- A public-private partnership digital
export development team will be sent to explore ASEAN markets such as
Indonesia, Singapore, and Vietnam on June 5-10
Ministry of
Science and ICT (MSIT) jointly announced the "Strategy to enhance overseas
expansion and export in digital business" through the Service Industry
Development Task Force on 5th June. The strategy is designed to
break through the export.
In particular,
based on Korea's accumulated digital capabilities, it contains practical tasks
to actively respond to changes in the export paradigm, such as the recent
spread of artificial intelligence and acceleration of digital transformation,
and to diversify products and markets.
In 2022, ICT
exports achieved the highest-ever performance, reaching USD 248.8 billion.
However, starting from July 2022, there has been a decline compared to the same
period of the previous year, mainly due to global economic slowdown.
Furthermore, it is anticipated that difficulties will persist until the third
quarter of 2022, considering the downturn in the semiconductor sector.
On the other hand, the growth and dynamism of
new markets are also emerging in accordance with hyper-scale technological
innovations in the field of artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT. With the
acceleration of digital transformation around the world, it is necessary to
actively utilize rapidly changing opportunity factors to overcome the current
export crisis.
In this regard, the government will conduct
the key measures as follows:
Firstly, based on
the competitiveness of artificial intelligence platform, K-contents and memory
semiconductors, outstanding achievements are expected to be generated in
high-growth areas such as Saas (software-as-a-srvice), artificial intelligence semiconductor,
and metaverse with high growth potential.
Second, MSIT will explore emerging markets
such as the Middle East, ASEAN, and Latin America, where digital transformation
and hyper-scale infrastructure investments are underway and the digital market
is growing dynamically due to the high proportion of young people.
Third, MSIT will strengthen the global market
entry support system to help digital innovative companies, which are the new
export engines, grow into global companies and become the main players in the
export market.
