- The public
advised to refrain from visiting the launch site to ensure safety and to limit Covid-19
transmission
- Watch the
liftoff in real-time via Youtube channels of MSIT, KARI and Naver TV
The Ministry of Science and ICT of Korea (Minister
Lim Hye-sook, MSIT) and the Goheung County Office in South Jeolla Province (Mayor
Song Gwi Geun, Goheung) requested the general public to watch the launch of KSLV-II,
Nuri at home using online channels rather than to visit the launch site, considering
the current infectious disease control and prevention measures and the safety precautions
for the rocket launch.
The Youtube channels of the MSIT and Korea
Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) will provide live coverage of the launch online,
which will enable viewers to witness a live rocket launch virtually. The historic
lift-off will be streamed live through a variety of domestic broadcasters including
the Naver TV. The viewers can also leave their comments on the online channels
while streaming the Nuri rocket launch.
Here are three online channels to visit for
launch viewing:
1. Ministry of Science and ICT’s Youtube channel:
www.youtube.com/user/withmsip
2. Korea Aerospace Research Institute’s Youtube
channel: www.youtube.com/c/KARItelevision
3. Naver TV: https://tv.naver.com
Public access will be restricted within a
3-kilometer radius from the launch site, situated in Goheung County, South
Jeolla Province, to ensure safety of the people, equipment and facilities near
the Naro Space Center around the launch time on October 21. The area of 24km to
the sea in width and 78km in length in the flight direction will be under
restricted access. In addition, the Goheung Space Launch Observatory where the
public cheered for the Naro rocket launch in 2013 will be shut down after 2pm
on the date of the Nuri launch to prevent the spread of Covid-19. The authorities
of neighboring cities of Goheung County such as Yeosu City have not yet
announced their restriction policies or gathering bans, but urged the public to
keep a safe social distance in case large groups of people were to gather at
the same place.
