Second Vice Minister Ryu Je-myung of the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister: Bae Kyung-hoon), attended Physical AI Tech Day, held as part of Physical AI Tech Week, at COEX in Seoul on Wednesday, October 14. At the event, he reviewed the latest technology trends in Physical AI and stressed the importance of cooperation among industry, academia and research institutes to secure technological competitiveness and expand the use of Physical AI across industries.

Under the theme “Intelligence into Action,” experts from industry, academia, and research institutes at home and abroad gathered to share global trends in physical AI technology and directions for its future development. They also discussed ways to cooperate to strengthen Korea’s technological competitiveness and promote the adoption of Physical AI across industries.

In his opening remarks, Second Vice Minister Ryu said, “Together with semiconductors and AI data centers, Physical AI is one of the three mega projects that will drive Korea’s future. It is a key technology for the AI transformation, as it can boost productivity and safety and create new products and services in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, healthcare and mobility.” He added, “As this cannot be achieved by any single technology or company alone, close cooperation among industry, academia and research institutes is essential.”

He also said, “We will actively support the application and spread of these technologies in industry so that outstanding technologies do not remain at the R&D stage but lead to field demonstrations and commercialization.”

After the opening remarks, Ryu toured the Physical AI technology exhibition at the venue, where he reviewed key technologies developed by Korean companies and research institutes, as well as demonstration cases, including AI semiconductors, data, AI-based factory optimization, collaborative robots, and humanoid robots. He also looked at how these R&D outcomes could be applied in industrial settings.

The event featured keynote speeches by experts from home and abroad, including FriendliAI Founder & CEO Chun Byung-gon, Professor Kim Sang-bae of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), who also works for Meta Robotics Architecture, and Professor Lee Kyoo-bin of the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). Technical presentations were also given on the themes “Intelligence in Operation” and “Intelligence in Physics.”

In the afternoon, the Physical AI Talk Concert was held, bringing together students, businesspeople and researchers. They discussed the concept and value of Physical AI, as well as the goals and future vision of national R&D in terms everyone can understand.
