【Relevant National Task】
23. Realizing a “Universal Basic AI Society” to enhance public safety and universal quality of life.
68. Fostering agriculture as a national strategic industry to safeguard food for the public.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA, Minister: Song Mi-ryung) and the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister: Bae Kyung-hoon) held a commemorative ceremony at the Cheongju Osong Convention Center (Cheongju OSCO) to mark the launch of the pilot app “Altteulhage Jangboljido,” roughly meaning “Map for Smart Grocery Shopping.” The app provides price information on agricultural and livestock products at nearby stores.
The ceremony brought together officials from relevant government ministries, participating retailers, and related organizations including the Korea Mart Association (KMA) and the Korea National Council of Consumer Organizations to celebrate both the launch of the price information consultative body* for agricultural and livestock products and the launch of the pilot app in five regions**.
* The consultative body consists of MAFRA, the app developer, participating retailers, KMA, and the Korea National Council of Consumer Organizations.
** Five regions: Suwon in Gyeonggi, Wonju in Gangwon, Cheongju in Chungbuk, Jeonju in Jeonbuk, and Changwon in Gyeongnam
After the ceremony, participants visited the Asan Mart Osong Branch in Cheongju City, where they held an event to promote the app and encourage consumers to download it, along with an event to verify the accuracy of the app’s price information by comparing the prices shown in the app with the actual prices of agricultural and livestock products sold at the store.
This newly launched grocery app was developed as part of the MSIT’s “Top 10 AI Livelihood Projects” and provides various practical, consumer-focused services including price information on fresh produce and livestock products at nearby stores, discount information, as well as recipes and shopping recommendations through an AI chatbot, allowing consumers to easily check and compare prices.
※ Top 10 AI Livelihood Projects: This initiative aims to spread the benefits of AI innovation by swiftly introducing services in areas where people can experience tangible benefits from AI in their daily lives.
“We expect that the launch of the Altteulhage Jangboljido app will greatly reduce the inconvenience of having to visit nearby stores in person to check and compare prices,” MAFRA Minister Song said, adding, “We will use this pilot period to enhance the app’s features as much as possible before the nationwide rollout in the second half of next year, while striving to position Altteulhage Jangboljido as Korea’s representative grocery shopping assistant.”
“As a first step in the Top 10 AI Livelihood Projects, the launch of the Altteulhage Jangboljido app marks a significant example of AI creating real value in an area closely connected to people’s daily lives,” Deputy Minister for ICT Policy at MSIT Lee Do-kyu said, adding, “Going forward, we will closely cooperate with MAFRA, other relevant ministries, and the private sector to identify and expand AI services that deliver tangible benefits to people, while actively working to ensure that the benefits of AI technology genuinely improve people’s lives.”
