On Monday, 24 August, 2026, the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT; Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bae Kyung-hoon) and the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China (MIIT) held the fifth ICT Strategic Dialogue in Beijing, where the two sides exchanged views on their respective ICT policies and discussed future cooperation.
Following the MOU on Digital Technology Cooperation signed at the Korea-China Summit in January this year, the MSIT and MIIT resumed the dialogue for the first time in eight years, following the fourth meeting held in 2018. Over the past eight years, both countries have emerged as global leaders in digital technology. Against this backdrop, close cooperation between two countries has become increasingly important in seizing shared opportunities and addressing challenges arising from advances in digital technology. The fifth dialogue laid a renewed foundation for future ICT cooperation and policy exchanges between the two countries.
Both sides shared their respective policies on promoting next-generation ICT technologies, a key driver of economic and industrial innovation, and reaffirmed the importance of capacity building and international cooperation to further strengthen their leadership in digital technology. They also highlighted the importance of improving digital accessibility and literacy for older adults and people with disabilities, while sharing policies and experiences in addressing the potential adverse effects of advances in digital technology. Korea and China agreed to continue sharing policies and experiences to identify potential areas of cooperation and support the development of comprehensive digital policies in both countries. In the area of radio spectrum, a key foundation for next-generation ICT development, the two sides shared their respective policies and experiences on the efficient use of spectrum and agreed to maintain close communication on spectrum cooperation amid the evolving spectrum environment.
Representatives from both countries welcomed the resumption of the Korea-China ICT Cooperation Ministerial Strategic Dialogue, noting that it provided an opportunity to deepen mutual understanding of each other’s ICT policies and exchange views on future policy directions. They also agreed to continue cooperation in the ICT sector through policy dialogue and exchanges.
Deputy Prime Minister Bae said, “As global leaders in digital technology, Korea and China need to share their policies and experiences to deepen mutual understanding. As we respond to common challenges arising from advances in digital technology, I look forward to continued communication between our two countries and hope this will lead to the expanded cooperation that benefits both sides.”
