The Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT), headed by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science and ICT Bae Kyung-hoon, announced that it hosted the San Francisco AI Summit in San Francisco on Friday, July 24. The summit brought together leading Korean and global companies at the forefront of the AI revolution.
* (Korean participants): Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong; SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won; Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun; and NAVER Founder and Chairman Lee Hae-jin
(Global participants): NVIDIA Founder and CEO Jensen Huang; Broadcom President and CEO Hock Tan; OpenAI CEO Sam Altman; and Anthropic Co-founder and CEO Dario Amodei
Held in San Francisco, a cradle of advanced technology and home to the global technology companies and promising start-ups driving the AI revolution, the summit brought together some of the world’s most prominent AI leaders. They shared their visions for the future of AI and announced a major global AI investment initiative that translates potential partnerships between Korean and global companies into concrete plans of action.
In the San Francisco AI Declaration, President Lee Jae Myung set out Korea’s capabilities and vision to become an indispensable hub in the global AI supply chain, underpinned by its world-leading memory semiconductor industry. He also highlighted the strategic value of working with Korea as a trusted and reliable supply chain partner.
The Global AI Leaders’ Dialogue that followed brought together Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang, SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan, Hyundai Motor Group Executive Chair Chung Euisun, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, NAVER Chairman Lee Hae-jin and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei. The participants discussed comprehensive partnerships across the AI ecosystem, ranging from semiconductor supply and production to the expansion of AI infrastructure and the development and deployment of physical AI. They also presented concrete plans to put these partnerships into action. Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella joined the summit via video. He expressed Microsoft’s commitment to advancing AI and accelerating its global adoption through cooperation with Korea in semiconductors and AI infrastructure, including next-generation AI memory semiconductors.
The summit culminated in the signing of six agreements between Korean companies and global technology leaders. Together, the agreements represent USD 950 billion in investment and cooperation commitments, including partnerships in semiconductor supply and production and the development of AI data centers with a combined capacity of 5 GW. The agreements are expected to further deepen partnerships between Korean and global companies and expand the scope and pace of cooperation—from practical collaboration in technology and infrastructure to the mobilization of large-scale international investment.
* ① Samsung Electronics–Broadcom: USD 200 billion in cooperation on memory semiconductor supply and foundry services over five years from 2026 to 2030
② Samsung SDS–Anthropic: Partnership to jointly develop new AI markets and train applied AI engineers
③ SK Group (SK hynix and SK Telecom)–NVIDIA: USD 500 billion in cooperation, including memory semiconductor purchases and support for the development and expansion of AI data centers with a combined capacity of up to 2 GW
④ SK Group (SK hynix)–Microsoft: Cooperation on memory semiconductor purchases
⑤ SK Telecom–Anthropic: Investment and cooperation in gigawatt-scale AI data center projects
⑥ NAVER–NVIDIA: Agreements worth USD 10 billion covering investment in a global AI factory and the supply of related infrastructure
Samsung Electronics will work with Broadcom over the next five years on the supply of advanced memory semiconductors and foundry services for AI chip production. The partnership is valued at USD 200 billion. Samsung SDS will also partner with Anthropic to jointly develop new AI markets and train applied AI engineers.
At the briefing on the three mega-projects held in June, SK Group—through SK Telecom and SK hynix—announced plans to invest in AI data centers with a combined capacity of 5 GW by 2029. Recognizing Korea’s strong potential as an AI infrastructure hub in Asia, Anthropic will work with SK Telecom to pursue investment and cooperation in gigawatt-scale AI data center projects in Korea. SK Group will also pursue USD 500 billion in cooperation with NVIDIA. This will include NVIDIA’s support for the development and expansion of AI data centers with a combined capacity of up to 2 GW, priority allocation of its latest Vera Rubin GPU systems, and cooperation on the supply of advanced memory semiconductors.
To meet rapidly growing demand for AI services, SK Group will also pursue a long-term partnership to supply memory semiconductors for Microsoft’s AI data centers. Building on its partnership with AWS, developed through the joint construction of an AI data center in Ulsan last year, SK Group plans to expand cooperation on the development of gigawatt-scale AI data centers in Korea.
NAVER announced its $10 billion global AI factory infrastructure expansion plan, including a strategic investment partnership with NVIDIA and an infrastructure supply contract with Brookfield, a global investment management company. NVIDIA plans to invest $1 billion in NAVER by providing GPUs and expanding their cooperation to deepen partnership in the global AI markets. Furthermore, Brookfield will also invest $9 billion in NAVER to jointly secure the supply chain and stable infrastructure necessary to operate gigawatt-scale AI factories.
Building on its world-class automobile manufacturing capabilities, robotics, and data, Hyundai Motor Group outlined a physical AI vision for regionally integrated intelligence through technology partnerships with leading technology companies. Moreover, it revealed its plan to cooperate with NVIDIA in establishing the Robotic Reference Platform to support the AI development at universities and startups, and announced a plan to collaborate with Waymo in building an innovative environment for self-driving cars, while fostering domestic strategic hubs for physical AI through investment in projects such as Saemangeum AI Valley.
Deputy Prime Minister Bae stated, “Today, we gathered with global tech titans who rarely come together in one place. It was a meaningful opportunity for us to discuss practical and detailed cooperation plans and reaffirm Korea’s crucial role in the global AI supply chain and its global competitiveness in AI.“
He added, “The Korean government will actively support the successful implementation of the large-scale AI investment initiatives discussed in detail today by leading Korean companies and global tech titans. We will make every effort to swiftly implement the San Francisco AI Declaration announced by the Korean president, with the aim of making Korea an unrivaled global AI manufacturing hub and an AI cooperation platform.“
